Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, who came in second to Senator John McCain in the Republican Presidential primary, visited Yad Vashem, February 3. He was hosted by the Christian Friends of Yad Vashem.
Huckabee’s VIP entourage included Congressman Bob McEwen from Ohio, Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, the singer and performing star Pat Boone and an additional group of approximately 150 tour participants.
The guests were accompanied throughout their visit by the Managing Director of the International Relations Division Shaya Ben-Yehuda and Director of the Christian Friends of Yad Vashem Dr. Susanna Kokkonen.
After a moving tour of the Holocaust History Museum, the group gathered at the Yad Vashem synagogue, where Huckabee spoke movingly and Rabbi Benny Eilon offered remarks. The group then participated in a Memorial Ceremony, where Huckabee laid a wreath in memory of the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, and the traditional El Male Rachamim prayer in honor of the dead, was sung by Rabbi Benny Eilon.
“We thank you for giving us this reminder” said Huckabee.
